Large Black Pigs
The Large Black, also known as the Cornish Black, is Britain’s only all black pig. It is a West Country breed which is thought to have originated in Cornwall. The breed also has its origins in the Old English Hog of the 16th and 17th centuries.
They are a hardy outdoor pig and due to their black skin they do not suffer from sunburn like paler skinned pigs.
The Large Black is listed as “Vulnerable” on the Rare Breed Survival Trust Watchlist. This means that there are less than 300 breeding sows left.
